Beyond the horizon of personal experience is the infinite possibility to reinvent one's life.

Today, Friday the 13th, is the luckiest day of my life. The beautiful weather was a perfect background to the amazing completion of the first earthbag school in the world. The alliance of NGOs, the Local Government, and the Community groups of Day-Asan coming together to solve a global problem; lack of Schools in rural areas and the environmantal protection of the planet.

congrats, hope this is the first of many more school buildings to come. What's the cost savings vs. traditional building materials? You should talk to groups like the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, they donate many school buildings each year using traditional mats

All the way in Surigao! Wow Illac. This is real synergy of private and public support and your genius used for a project that benefits children. Is that Chuck Janolino in your photos? I remember he mentioned that he works for Cemex. The power of one. You inspire us.
illacdiaz wrote on Jul 15, '07
Yeah, chuck brought La Farge to be one of our major sponsors for some of the cement mixes. Plus the company is doing serious on the ground work with sustainable construction projects.

sa surigao toh???
kramlizarb wrote on Dec 14, '07
omg! sabi ko na nga bah it was an earthbag building that I saw in Surigao. I went to Day-asan last year and saw the unique building. I knew about the earthbag shelter when my organization joined the Panibagong Paraan in 2006 with the hope of building 2 classrooms for the Talaandig tribe in in the uplands of BUkidnon. Though we reach the finals but unfortunately we did not get the grant for the reason that we are a new org and has yet to establish a track record. But we moved on.

Hope your earthbag projects will help more rural children through your provision of a unique and pretty classroom! good luck to all of your efforts!

Hi, I was the 2004 President of JCI Perlas Pasay and JCI Philippines 2006 National officer which led me to this site. Before getting married, I was driven also by the desire to change the world and help others. I have heard of your work and seeing this new structure and how you impact lives inspired me again to look at the world in its big picture. May you continue to inspire those who have more to give and give to those who are still in need. Kudos!

Great job Illac.

You're an awesomely kewl social entrepreneur.
I've been a huge fan of social entrepreneurship for many years now.

In 2006, I finally started my own social entrepreneur project in my Phil. hometown
of Tabango, Leyte using my knowledge and skills as an Internet Entrepreneur
(Social Netpreneur, i call it).

I was originally inspired by the story of Muhammad Yunus (thru his books
"Banker to The Poor" and "Creating A World Without Poverty and his videos
from Ashoka) during our first Philippine Trade Mission in late July 2006.

I started a computer and internet training scholarship program in my Phil. hometown
just before our trade mission team left for the U.S. in August, 2006. Now, after 2 years,
we've already trained more than 100 high school students and graduates from Tabango,
Leyte and have employed in my US-based Internet outsourcing company about 20 of
them.

I'm planning to add more students to train by creating more classrooms in our family land
in Tabango, Leyte so I'm curious if I can communicate directly with you and ask you the
approximate cost per classroom I'll have to incur if I want to create Earth bag classrooms
in my hometown in Leyte...

Salamat at Mabuhay Illac!

Dear Mr. Diaz,

Congratulations for this great endeavor! Your vision probably is God inspired!
This is a request on how can I partner with your foundation in building our first home on earthbag like the earthbag clinic you spearhead to build. I am a middle income earning entrepreneur in my mid 30s. I share with most of our countrymen who are very unfortunate of not having their own home, that is of better quality but of lower cost. That until now, I don't know how can I provide a decent home for my family. Me and my wife is expecting our pag-ibig loan to be approved this year as a lot purchase. The savings from it, we would like to spend in building our first home. We estimated that what will be left for the proceeds of our loan will not be sufficient to fund a livable house with the current market prices of construction materials. I have done some research on earthbuilding and it is a good option for us to start with having a very slim budget. We plan to build our home here in Nueva Vizcaya and hoping to partner with you in terms of assistance in the building will be a great help and opportunity to open up minds in alternative building techniques that eventually will help our less fortunate Filipino brothers and sisters.

Regards,
Rhodel Peralta
